Performing Arts

Students in the theatre program have an interactive, hands-on experience where they learn to think like actors, artists, and musicians. Students learn artistic process as well as technical expertise in theater, music and art.

Theater Program: Students can take one semester of Theater during their four years of study at APH or students can take advancing theater classes each and every semester and anything in between. The program is meant to engage all levels of students. In the first year, girls cover acting, script analysis, playwriting, directing and technical theater. For students who wish to engage more with theater during their time here they can delve deeper into major area of focus such as Stage Dialects, Improvisational Comedy, Shakespeare, Acting for the Camera and The Business of Acting. Those interested in Technical theater enroll in specified courses or independent studies related to their concentration: set design, lighting design, sound design, hair and makeup design, costume design or stage management. Each year, our Drama club presents a Fall play, a Dramafest competitive play and a Spring Musical.

Music Program: Much like the Theater Program, students can take one semester of Music during their four years of study at APH or students can take advancing music classes each and every semester and anything in between. In the first year students will participate in singing, reading, and notation, playing an instrument, improvisation and composition and critical response. For those students who wish to engage more with music during their time here can delve deeper into classes on Music Appreciation, Music Composition, Music Technology (Recording/Producing), Music Theory I, II and III to name a few.
