Laura Caron

Head of School

Laura Caron has been with APH since the winter of 2022 when she joined us as the Interim Dean of Academics. As Head of School, Laura will lead the program at APH. She will work with students, faculty, and families, and have daily oversight of the academic curriculum and co-curricular programs. Laura is a mission-driven educator with over twenty-five years of experience leading successful K-12 independent schools on both the East and West coast.

She is the former Head of School at neighboring Brookwood School where she created signature programs, improved the cohesiveness of both the student and family experience across grade levels, and helped the school thrive in a competitive market. Prior to her work at Brookwood School, Laura was a Division Head at the all-girls Westridge School (grades 4-12) in Pasadena, CA. There, she partnered with faculty to launch innovative, interdisciplinary programs, elevated student and faculty leadership and deepened the quality of the student experience. Before that, she served as a Dean at Crossroads School (grades K-12) in Santa Monica, CA, supporting students’ academic, social and emotional progress and partnering with faculty to create dynamic interdisciplinary programs.

Laura also worked with the Program of Negotiation at Harvard Law School; she then took these principles into consulting work in team building and mediation in the Pacific Northwest. Laura began her career in education as a history teacher and coach at Crossroads School and a teacher and dorm parent for the Exploration Summer Program at Wellesley College. Reflecting her love for the outdoors and respect for the teaching power of nature, she also served as an Outward Bound instructor for all-girls trips and led hundreds of students on wilderness trips for independent schools.

Laura earned a B.A. from Brown University in American Civilization and an M.Ed. from Harvard’s Graduate School of Education where her focus of study included adolescent psychology and negotiation theory. She has served on the Association of Independent Schools in New England (AISNE) Membership Committee overseeing school accreditation. Currently, she serves as a Trustee for the First Church of Salem, Unitarian Universalist.
