Feminism in Modern Music

This course is a music history class that combines the progression of feminism with the progression of female-driven music, all in a modern context. Students will learn about feminist icons both in musical and non-musical contexts, how different feminist waves created and/or hindered opportunities for women to create music, and research female-driven music across genres, cultures, time eras, and how intersectionality factors into those areas. While this course is aimed towards the modern musical timeline with feminist-based research at the forefront, this course is also an excellent topic of study for those interested in history, poetry, and political science.
