French I

In this introductory-level course, you will begin listening to and reading French from day one, and your writing and speaking skills will emerge naturally. Class is immersive, active, and proficiency-driven. We will communicate across the four skills of reading, writing, speaking and listening, using basic French vocabulary and simple grammatical structures to speak about ourselves, navigate everyday situations, and learn about French and Francophone cultures. Class content is largely driven by students’ ideas and interests, as we create imaginative stories and talk about our lives. Topics covered may include introductions, descriptions, etiquette, school, shopping, hobbies, food, travel, family, daily life and the home. You will be exposed to basic grammatical concepts through comprehensible input, including but not limited to: present tense verbs, gender of nouns, asking questions, making comparisons, and the passé composé.
