Gwen Harding Awarded Student Life Scholarship from The Academy at Penguin Hall

Peabody 8th-grader Named Penguin Hall’s 2020 Student Life Scholarship Winner

Wenham, Mass., — June 11, 2020 –  The Academy at Penguin Hall (APH) is pleased to award Gwenyth Harding of Peabody the Student Life Scholarship. Given annually to an incoming first-year student, the Student Life Scholarship is awarded to an individual who demonstrates a purposeful and significant commitment to enhancing student life through leadership and creative initiatives that positively impact and enrich her school community.  The Student Life Scholarship is only available to students who apply during the Early Admissions period, and the winner receives a $2,500 award that is renewable all four years.

“Gwen’s love for creative writing, musical performance, and giving back to her community was evident throughout her application. A naturally empathetic and compassionate leader, Gwen is dedicated to meeting her educational goals while maintaining her community commitments,” said Brigid Beckman, APH Director of Service Learning and Spiritual Life. “These attributes, coupled with her strong work ethic and passion to help others, makes Gwen a deserving recipient of the Student Life Scholarship.”

Gwen is an excellent student who absolutely adores both writing and acting. Throughout her education, Gwen has been consistently drawn to musical theater, including last year in her seventh grade, when she played Belle in Beauty and the Beast. A lover of short stories and fictional scripts, Gwen is especially excited to discover the many types of literature and theatre support courses offered at Penguin Hall. Gwen not only succeeds in her academics, she shines in her community, too. A member of the National Junior Honor Society, (NJHS) Gwen recently completed her seventh-grade NJHS community project for the Northeast Animal Shelter in Salem, MA, where she plans to volunteer once she’s old enough to do so.

When Gwen and her parents were considering where she would attend high school, they desired a learning environment that would provide her with ample opportunities to advance her academic prowess and the community support she needed to evolve into her strongest, most compassionate self. After heavily researching The Academy at Penguin Hall, John and Christine Harding realized The Academy would provide Gwen with just that: “strong, academic and social growth, ultimately helping her become a strong, independent and successful young woman.”
