Penguin Hall Launches New 5-Day Boarding Program

APH Empowers Girls Grades 9-12 to Live Independently Within an Intentional Community

Wenham, Mass., – Girls in grades 9-12 now have the opportunity to experience a brand new 5-day boarding program at The Academy at Penguin Hall, an all-girls college preparatory school in Wenham, Massachusetts. Whether local or out-of-state, students will have the opportunity to live independently while actively participating in an intentional community.

Launched in September 2021, APH’s flagship cohort of student residents enjoy the opportunity to live with fellow students from diverse backgrounds while still enjoying weekends at home with families. Penguin Hall’s five-day boarding students get to develop independence and experience dorm life before college. Also, both students and families gain back valuable time during the week without the daily commute to and from APH and after-school practices.

Each bedroom is newly renovated and fully furnished and includes views of Penguin Hall’s beautiful 50-acre campus. The residential space also includes a community-style bathroom, student lounge, and kitchen space. A dorm parent resides in the studio apartment located on the same floor, who eats meals with students, supervises study time, and also coordinates fun and engaging activities and excursions.

“I am excited about the addition of 5-day boarding to our program.” says Molly Martins, President of Penguin Hall. “We have listened to many families saying that Penguin Hall was everything that they wanted, but they wished that it were closer. This program now makes this educational opportunity available to more students who would not otherwise have an opportunity to attend. In addition, and equally important, we are able to provide an opportunity for students to develop skills they will need as they get ready to move on to the next phase of their lives in college and then beyond. At the same time we honor the importance of the family with the students going home on the weekends.”

The boarding program provides a structured environment for students while instilling personal responsibility. Boarding at APH also helps students enjoy more fully the extracurricular life of the school. Perhaps most significant, it challenges student residents to grow and thrive as productive, positive members of a special family within the Penguin Hall community.

“The opportunity to do five-day boarding has provided me not only a unique community and access to resources I wouldn’t have at home, but also has served as a sort of introduction to college life.” says Bertie Mahonoey ‘22, a senior at Penguin Hall, “By spending the week at school, I can experience some of the changes that will come next year, while also being in an environment I’m comfortable with and being able to spend weekends with my family.”
