Shadow Days: Three Reasons to Schedule

Shadow Days are a fantastic way for you to get a true feel for what it’s like to be a student at The Academy at Penguin Hall! During your Shadow Day, you’ll join a student who will be your guide for the entire day. You’ll get to know our beautiful campus by attending our innovative classes, engaging with students and teachers in and out of the classroom, enjoying a delicious lunch in the bistro, and much more. Read on to discover why scheduling a Shadow Day is a great next step on your path to becoming an APH student.

Walk in the footsteps of an APH student.

Penguin Hall provides an innovative and supportive learning environment. Here, girls learn to simultaneously challenge and encourage one another. In every classroom, students are encouraged to be themselves, while respecting the differing views of peers. Our discussion-rich and inquiry-based classes, many of them modeled after those at the college level, allow students to deepen their self understanding. With the guidance of expert faculty members, 85% of whom hold an advanced degree in their field, students learn how to effectively express themselves, think critically about important topics, and become better learners.

Meet and get to know your future classmates.

One of the best ways to decide that Penguin Hall is a great fit for you is to meet the students! Your student guide will introduce you to her friends and peers throughout the day. You’ll have a chance to observe students in class, and participate in classroom discussions if you feel comfortable. If your visit falls on a day dedicated to Clubs and Affinity Groups, you’ll also meet and interact with students in one of our many student-run clubs, from Mock Trial to Robotics. And, you’ll get to relax and enjoy the company of students during lunch, where students and faculty come together around small group tables to share a delicious and nutritious meal each day.

Experience what makes the APH Community so special.

As soon as you arrive, you’ll share in on the warm and welcoming atmosphere that makes APH such a special place to learn. Start your day with us in our school-wide Morning Meeting, a time for students, faculty, and leadership to come together, reflect and express gratitude, and discuss upcoming school events and other announcements. You’ll also join your student guide in her advisory group, a small group of peers that meet every day with their mentor (a teacher or other staff member at APH); experience the special relationships that develop in this group and the power of having a trusted mentor who you can turn to for advice on academic and personal goals.

Penguin Hall Shadow Days are offered throughout the year and provide a unique opportunity to spend the day at The Academy. To schedule a Shadow Day:
